Peace of Mind Started With a Question: What’s Really in Our Food?

Recently, our founder, Colleen Kavanagh, joined the Road to Retail podcast to share the story behind ZEGO, what inspired our commitment to transparency, and why we’re working to help create a healthier, more trustworthy food system

Many people know ZEGO for nutritious foods that fit a variety of special diets. But our mission has always been bigger than what’s on the package. ZEGO was built on a simple belief: consumers have a right to know what’s in their food before they buy it or eat it.

More Than Food. A Right to Know.

From the beginning, we’ve focused on serving people who need greater confidence in the foods they choose, whether they’re managing dietary restrictions or simply looking for cleaner, more transparent options. Our community may have different reasons for seeking out better food, but they’re united by a common goal: food they can trust.

That’s why transparency has become one of the defining principles of our brand. It isn’t a marketing strategy. It’s a commitment to helping people make informed decisions about what they feed themselves and their families.

Why Purity Verification Matters

As we learned more about the challenges within today’s food system, one thing became clear: consumers deserve more visibility into the quality and purity of their food.

That belief ultimately led to the development of our Purity Verified program.

We believe transparency should be accessible, understandable, and actionable. By helping consumers see the testing behind their food, we’re working to create greater confidence and accountability throughout the food system.

Building a Better Food System Together

At ZEGO, our goal has never been to keep transparency to ourselves. We want to help raise expectations across the entire industry.

When consumers ask questions, seek evidence, and expect transparency from the brands they support, meaningful change becomes possible. Every question asked and every purchasing decision made has the power to move the food industry toward greater accountability and trust.

That’s why advocacy remains a core part of who we are. We create food, but we also work to empower consumers with information and support the systems and supply chains needed to produce cleaner, more nutritious food.

Looking Ahead

Whether we’re investing in supply chains, exploring new technologies, expanding transparency, or supporting farmers, the question that guides us remains the same:

How do we create more peace of mind for the people who depend on our food?

Because peace of mind isn’t just a slogan. It’s the reason ZEGO exists. And it’s what continues to inspire our work every day

About Road to Retail

Road to Retail was built to help emerging and challenger brands figure out when and how to secure distribution across food, drug, mass, club, and dollar retail channels. The show draws on years of hands-on experience, interviews with buyers at major retailers, and ongoing conversations with the manufacturers and suppliers who support growing brands. Having led these kinds of business-building initiatives from the inside, the hosts now focus on helping emerging brands navigate everything that comes with getting — and staying — on shelf.

It’s exactly the kind of audience we wanted to speak to: founders trying to figure out not just how to make a good product, but how to build a brand people can actually trust once it’s sitting next to a dozen competitors.
