ZEGO recently attended a Spokin event at the University of Arizona Alpha Phi sorority. Spokin’s mission is to make managing food allergies and celiac disease easier by connecting the community to safe foods, restaurants, bakeries, travel tips, recipes, and each other. It’s easy to see why ZEGO has partnered with Spokin!

This pop-up included some of the best gluten-free and allergy-friendly brands around. Spokin wanted to share that everyone can feel included, even with food allergies, sensitivities or celiac disease!

We tried to make a smoothie that would be a hit on a college campus, where people are focused on quick nutrition, health, and great tasting food. The only requirements were that it had to be peanut and tree nut-free, and gluten-free. They requested a matcha flavor and we jumped in developing a great tasting smoothie!

Matcha is a bright-green powder made from tea leaves. Matcha is believed to have health benefits like lowering blood pressure, reducing inflammation, and helping improve insulin sensitivity. It is also suspected to improve concentration and alertness. Matcha has a sort of grassy taste, and pairs well with other greens like spinach or kale in a smoothie.

We definitely wanted to include our sacha inchi protein powder – it’s a great way to get in nut-free plant-based protein. Sacha inchi is actually a seed found in places like peru. It’s not a nut, and smells and tastes a little like sunflower seeds. It adds a nutty profile to foods, without using actual nuts. Sacha inchi is also a complete protein! Sacha inchi protein is a whole food product that is simply cooked, cold pressed, and ground seeds. It is not an isolate like other protein powders, which are processed with chemicals or enzymes. It’s the perfect addition to any smoothie recipe.

We wanted to pair the matcha flavor with complementary blueberry and lemon flavors. Our Blueberry Lemon Poppy Superfood Oatmeal was a perfect addition! Our superfood oatmeal has the subtle taste of a blueberry lemon poppyseed muffin. This superfood blend also contains extra vitamin D2 from mushrooms. Just scoop a few tablespoons right into the mixture. Yes, you can add oatmeal directly into the smoothie mix! The oats, dates, and dried blueberries in this superfood blend will all blend into the smoothie using a high-quality blender.
